Awake Today | Tumbaga Tone 1

**Video Link attached at the bottom of the post**

I am happy to present to you our very first entry into the spoken word poetry and blurb series.

Starting off the series with a big celebration. At the time of writing, I had observed the passing of Virgil Abloh back in November at the young age of 41. He was a huge influence and leader in the fashion designer clothing game. This brand started as just a clothing brand, and from here we are inspired by a life well lived and a legacy of giving back and unrestricted creative expression. This compliment reaches from the amount of work done in a life well lived, but also the broad set of practices. From an education in architecture, a foundation in creative direction, to a take-off professionally as a fashion designer of his own label and direction the world renowned Louis Vuitton.

Since then, we have also lost the legendary Vicente Fernandez. A favorite across generations, his music stokes the fires of passion in our hearts with his sensational vocal range, melody, and striking messages. As a boy, the gritos would be a cultural thrill, as well as the upbeat or deeply sad melodies would always have me wanting more. As a young man, I have found clever structures and ideas in the lyrics, and joined in on that level of enjoyment. I still remember how in love I was with the 2007 drop of Para Siempre, and when I would be at home alone, I would pop in the CD out a a killer stack of works from Shakira, Mana, Joan Sebastian, among others, (they all got their time to shine).

Entertainment and enjoying creative efforts of others with awe is something I am very grateful for, and I would love to do so much more of. But I also feel this urge to create more, and seeing such great actors leave the stage for the final curtain is a big motivator. Our time to use this gift is finite, and though delivering great work is part of my vision, this moment I want to celebrate the great work they have done, that I'm sure, in some way, set my creativity and ambition ablaze.

I hope you enjoy, and thank you for checking out XOCHI's Tumbaga Tone. Subscribe to see more and make an account to join the community and start a conversation.

"Awake Today"

They say sleep is like temporary death,

we don't know where we go,

at least most of us don't,

but we do know that nobody escapes the final slumber,

I will remove any semblance of shrouds impairing my vision,

I accept and love who I am today,

enough to push and enhance that love towards myself,

the world around me,

and the divine amongst all,

evermore,

I trust in the peace I have made with yesteryear,

as much as yesterday,

I hone my clarity, conviction, drive, and discipline,

in all of my doings to be a better me,

for the future to see,

an ode to all my ancestors, peers, and past selves,

for the honor and privilege to be better off today,

for the present is truly our gift,

and here's to the future filled with abundance and prosperity,

for me and those who surround,

for it takes a village and nation,

to mount the saddle of a mound,

so every bit of wealth I touch will multiply,

to enjoy and spread,

the why to my play

is to sieze the day,

I'm well on my way,

silence will not befall us,

for you'll always hear the hum of our drum,

and that's how you know,

that we're awake today
